Jessica Levine (she/her):
Jessica Levine (Oberlin ’95) is an award winning educator at Eckstein Middle school. She is the STEM Teacher Coordinator. At Oberlin, she studied Biology and double minored in Chemistry and Environmental Studies. Also at Oberlin, she helped design the Adam Joseph Lewis Center and tutored Biology at Oberlin Senior High School. In Seattle, she studied at the University of Washington and then earned her masters at Antioch University. She has been working in Environmental Education for over 20 years, from programs such as the YMCA Earth Service Corps, wilderness leadership, private school classrooms, to now, at Washington State’s largest public middle school. Jessica has been recognized for her work in integrating sustainability and problem based education into district adopted science curriculum. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and a recipient of the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. Jessica is also a founding board member of the American Association of Chemistry Teachers. Colin Cahill (he/him):
Colin Cahill is a third year double-degree student at Oberlin (Chemistry/Jazz Saxophone). Colin is from Seattle, went to Eckstein Middle School, and has worked with Jessica Levine as an intern during winter term in 2017. In this first year of the Eckstein-Oberlin Education Partnership Colin has served as the STEEAM Liaison, communicating between Oberlin and Eckstein and supporting the creation of this winter term. Colin is excited to work in a school like Eckstein, and is ready to do what he can to support project-based, cross-curricular teaching. Colin loves Jazz, Science, Cooking (which is science in practice!), Ultimate frisbee, and all forms of learning!
Paul Lawrence (he/him):
Paul Lawrence is a third-year Mathematics major and Computer Science minor from Seattle. He has worked with children in several different environments, including summer camps, gymnastics, and drama programs. This is his first time working at a middle school, and is exploring integrating problem and puzzle-solving into teachers’ curriculum, as well as developing forums for student-to-teacher feedback. He was educated through the Seattle Public Schools system, and is happy to give back to the community!
Miche McCall (they/them):
Miche is a bridge-loving, coffee-drinking Portland native who moved north for the month of January to work at Eckstein! They have a double major in Comparative American Studies, Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies, a concentration in Education and a minor in English. Miche wants to become a high school English teacher and is hoping to end back up in the Pacific Northwest someday! They have worked in schools all over the United States from being a writing associate at the Oberlin College writing center to working in early childhood at a Waldorf school in Western Massachusetts. At Eckstein, they are excited about connecting their love for Language Arts and literature with STEEAM education through problem-based learning and interdisciplinary work between teachers. They are excited to learn about holistic and interdisciplinary education and bring it to the classrooms they will teach in the future.
